Samuel "Sam" Rappaport is a fictional character on the long running ABC soap opera One Life to Live. He was originally portrayed by Kale Browne from March 5, 1998 to April 11, 2001. The role was taken over on May 8, 2001 by veteran All My Children actor Laurence Lau, who was made famous for portraying Greg Nelson. He left the role on April 9, 2003 [3] after a fatal gunshot by his on screen ex-wife, Lindsay.
Hot shot attorney Sam Rappaport arrived in town to defend his old friend, Todd Manning, on rape charges. He was surprised to run into his ex-flame, Nora Gannon Buchanan, and he realized he never truly gave up on her. Sam then helped Todd during his divorce from his wife, Téa Delgado Manning. He also helped Nora and Bo Buchanan by defending Bo when he was accused of murdering Georgie Philips.
Sam soon entered into a turbulant relationship with Blair Cramer Manning. His ex-wife, Lindsey arrived in town and begged Sam to care for their son, Will. Sam agreed and Blair left town with Max Holden. She soon returned around his son's arrival and tried to get on Sam's good side. Sam also defended Todd on his kidnapping charges, but was shocked and angry to learn he had been faking his DID the whole time and Blair knew about it.
After the death of Bo's son, Drew Buchanan, Bo entered into a depression and Nora was desperate to give him a reason to live. She lied that she was pregnant, but believed Bo was sterile so she turned to Sam. Lindsay knew the truth, and publicly announced the affair, causing a break up between Bo and Nora, but Sam stayed by her side and the two grew close.
During a snowstorm, Nora went into labor and Sam rushed her to the hospital. She gave birth to a son, Matthew, who almost died after birth. Sam and Nora continued to grow closer, and after her marriage with Bo ended, the couple tried to marry more than once, although it never worked out. They moved in together and were happy.
Nora was soon presumed dead in a train crash, devastating Sam. He refused to believe she was dead and continued to search for her. She was truly being held by Dr. Colin McIver, but was rescued by Todd Manning. Nora returned to Llanview and lost most of her memory, and didn't remember Matthew or her relationship with Sam. Sam gave her space, hoping she would remember soon. Soon, his daughter Jen Rappaport came to town and was living with him. He was also defending Blair Cramer Manning Holden who was accused of shooting Max Holden.
Tragedy soon struck the Rappaports when Lindsay, who was aiming at Troy McIver shot and killed Sam, devastating his family and Todd.
